The "CoArt-music - Mimmi Siegel Interview"
The biggest success and what I enjoyed the most are actually two different things!
CoArt-music: Hello Mimmi, you did a lot of music- things in the past, like dancing, musicals, TV, even Top 40 and also some releases and touring in Germany and the rest of Europe. What was your greatest commercial success and - independent from that, what did you like the most?
 Mimmi Siegel: Hello to you! That is a big question to start with...;-), but I´ll tell you! The biggest success and what I enjoyed the most are actually two different things.
Between ´94 and ´97 I was the singer of a Eurotechno group, we had several singles out and toured a lot. It was great and we got attention. But what I have enjoyed the most is absolutley and without question, making these songs that you can listen to here. I just created, without thinking about it having to be commercial or to "please" some executive at some record label. I just wrote from my heart, took my time and put as much as me into it as possible. This IS me.
Also I have done many years of touring around mainly Sweden with different shows and as backup for other artists. My first job, when I was very young, was with a German artist called Fancy - remember him? ;-)
CoArt-music: Sorry, no! What was his name? ;-) A lot of people in Germany do not know very much about the music-scene in your country. Ok, they know Abba, but mostly that`s it! Can you tell me something about the things that are very special in your country, concerning living in general and of course within the music-business?
 Mimmi Siegel: Well, another big question... the music scene here is great!
One of my best friends is a famous song writer and has several hits every year with different artists. But even if it is a great music scene its quite narrow minded, meaning, its hard for an independant singer/songwriter to get into it. The radios play only 10-15 songs and they are all Britney Spears and Robbie Williams sort of thing.
I actually dont think we live very differently from you in Germany, I guess we have more green perhaps... I find it quite easy to live here, people are not that hard to get along with, schools are still ok and its quite clean and pleasant.
CoArt-music: Maybe it´s a good idea to let introduce Mimmi Siegel a little bit to those readers who might don´t know you yet. Can you tell us: Who is Mimmi Siegel? What is important in your life, what makes you happy, what makes you angry and last but not least: What is your inspiration?
Mimmi Siegel: Oh dear, ok I´ll give it a go!
I am a calm and quite happy woman living just outside of Stockholm together with my beautiful son. He is the joy of my life of course. I have a musical duo called "Mimmi and the guy to the right". We work and have fun together. I write my music together with a fantastic pianist named Daniel Palm.
I hate people who tell kids there is something wrong with them and try to give them pills to "calm them down" or to make them "better". I believe in Human Rights and hope that very soon all countries around the world will be living (and acting) by them.
I get inspired by my life. Most of my music is about love, as no one else around is writing about love, I thought I would (this is a joke!). Usually a melody comes into my head and I just create out of that... I work alot with my voice and communication, so that the audience can have a nice experience when listening to me. Because that is the point, I make music and I sing for others. I enjoy it myself of course, but I do it for others to listen to.
CoArt-music: You already did a lot of composing and you also wrote some succesfull songs, but lately you told me, that you weren´t that happy or satisfied
in doing this until some time ago. What was the reason, what made the
change?
Mimmi Siegel: I dont really know what the change was... I guess I stopped compromising with my own reality. I started to know more who I was and I could finally decide what it was I wanted to do, musically.
CoArt-music: It seems some things changed especially since you met co-writer Daniel Palm? How did you met him, and can you tell us a little bit more about your co-operation?
 Mimmi Siegel: I had a job singing in a church for a wedding. My guitarist was booked for another job and I asked around for a replacement. Someone recommended Daniel so I called him. We met, rehearsed and "found" each other musically. This was 4 years ago.
We really admire one another and always feel we need to be better then ever to live up to the other. This makes us always do our absolute best when we work together. I think the main thing that makes us do well together is the fact that we are both spiritual and believe in "more than what meets the eye". We never argue or have disagreements, its like a match made in heaven. But he is not my boyfriend ;-)
CoArt-music: Hmm, and who is your boyfriend? ;-) ? No, I´m just kidding! Let´s talk about your music. Your new songs are reduced to the very basics of song-writing, just piano and your voice. Is it somehow "back to the roots", or is it another step forward to new horizons? Or maybe both of it?
Mimmi Siegel: Its both. We actually did record with a band first, but we were not satisfied. When Daniel and I create together its so light and we have the same level of communication with aesthetics. So we diecided to give it a go just him and me, and it turned out exactly how we wanted.
CoArt-music: What are your plans for the nearer future? Will you come to play some concerts in Germany?
Mimmi Siegel: Just tell me when and where and I´ll be there in a heartbeat! :-) I have friends in Germany that I would love to see again and I would very much like to sing for them and anyone else who wants to listen. I will be sure to let you all know when I come!´
